Girls Leadership Outing

A few days ago Rachel took our girls leadership team out to the lake for a little getaway. We spent the afternoon laying on rafts in the lake and enjoying some much needed time together. We felt miles away from all our responsibilities of kamp. Thanks Rachel for such a special day!

Beach babes!
I love you girls so much! Each of you are so special to me! I'm so thankful we get to spend this summer together.

Meant to post this on 6.23

Hi again! I’m sorry it’s been so long since I have blogged. Here’s a little bit of what’s been going on lately. Since I last wrote we finished our first term of kamp. The second set of kids are here and having a great time. In the last week we have had a Mexican fiesta, a Pirate party, a relaxing movie night, the “Old School” party – complete with a human shuffleboard and oatmeal fight, and yesterday was “Chica Dia”. Chica Dia is one of the girls’ favorite days at kamp. We abandon the schedule for the day and do all things GIRL. A mad hatter tea party for breakfast, spa time at the pool, baking sugar cookies, a picnic lunch, and finally the Miss K-Kountry Pageant! This time I had the privilege of playing the reigning Miss K-Kountry. I spent the afternoon training the girls on how to walk the runway and helped them pick out their theme music and lighting for the pageant. Each barn picked one counselor to represent them. The kampers got to choose her evening gown and do her hair and makeup. Along with their evening gown round each contestant performed a talent. They could either do something on their own or include the kampers in their barn. We had some hilarious talents! My favorite had to be barn 1 – their counselor was a cowgirl and all the kampers were cows. They mooed around on stage while their counselor taught the audience how to lasso and herded the cows into the pit. A bunch of little mooing 7 year olds – stole my heart! ☺ Here are a few pics from the evening.

I promise I’m going to try and do better on updating more often! Today I’m off and enjoying a day to myself. Miss and love you all!

First day off

Hi again! I'm finally on a day off getting some much needed rest. Right now I'm sitting on the coach eating a delicious sandwich from Jimmy Johns, drinking a diet coke and watching So You Think You Can Dance on the DVR. I LOVE this show! I'm catching up on all the episodes I've missed so far this season.

Here are some pics from the last week or so...

Our girls leadership team (minus 2) at the Sonic Sock Hop. Our costume theme was colors of the rainbow.
Here we are again - costume change. This time it's a Hoe Down!
Me and Ella kicking up our cowgirl boots! This girl knows how to dance!
Thursday we celebrated Braden's (Rachel and Collin's son) 1st birthday. We opened up the pool, served up some ice cream, and cranked up the music. The kampers joined us to celebrate the big boy!
Doesn't that smile just steal your heart?
His big sister wasn't going to miss out on any of the action...especially the cupcakes!
Braden held nothing back when the cupcake was put in front of him.
Chocolate Boy!
Well, one week of kamp is behind us. Already so many fun memories! Can't wait to see what's coming this week. :)

Kamp update

Hey there. Well, no pics to share with you tonight but I have some down time so I thought I'd write. The past week has been just crazy (crazy is normal around here, so I guess I should just say it's been another week at kamp)! As I write this there are about 200 kids dressed up in sombreros and ponchos outside my door preparing for the Amigos, Amigos, Amigos party. I think Austin is trying to teach them some spanish. HA! I have to work tonight so I don't get to go to the party, but I've heard rumors of rotten fruit smashing, a guess your weight in bananas station, and a wrestling match. Should be fun! :) Last night was our first tribal ceremony. Tribal is a huge tradition here at Kanakuk. We do a seperate ceremony with the guys and girls to place the new kampers in their tribes. The whole leadership team dresses up as indians for the ceremony. Sarah and I did a dance of competition and then we all do a friendship dance. After we announce everyone's tribes we come together for a large ceremony down by the lake. The guys come in from the lake on canoes and shoot flaming arrows into the water as they announce the kampers who will lead their tribes during their term as the braves and princesses. It is a really big honor to be named brave and princess so it's fun to see the pride on the faces of the kampers as they are announced.

Opening day was on Monday so I am starting to get settled in to a schedule here. I'm still learning how to best plan my days and give my office girls structure to their days as well. But, the kinks are starting to get ironed out. It's so fun to finally have kampers here. We have been planning and preparing for so long that it's nice to finally get started!

As I look ahead to the coming weeks/months of the summer I'm so excited about what God is going to do here at K-Kountry. We have the most incredible staff and leadership team that I am honored to serve alongside of. We are studying 2 Thessolonians with our staff this summer. I was reading through it today preparing to teach my bible study and I am so excited by it. God is really teaching me to live expectantly for His coming and how blessed my life is when I live to honor Him. "We constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Thess. 1:11-12

More to come soon! Love and miss you all!!
